When I started med school back in the ice ages, this was one the first textbook that I've bought. Rang and Dale's Pharmacology could be one of the most useful books that money can buy! It covers quite a bit of physiology, at least enough so that when it talks about how and why drugs work, everything would make sense. It has an excellent section drug receptors, which corresponded to our lectures (at St Georges at least), and also as a recommended textbook, many of us bought one. There isn't much wrong with this book, so I'll stop here.
Hang on, knew I forgot something, as this book is published by Elsevier, there will be a code on the inside cover, which will allow you access to the online version of the book!
